Konichiwa from 36,000 feet.
Writing this on the plane back from our trip to Japan.
'Twas fun, fruitful, and of course, full of the usual but still bewildering amounts of debauchery that the country always seems to grant us.
On this trip Enter Shikari survived:
-2 Earthquakes both measuring around 7 on the richter scale
-A Typhoon which you may of heard about sweeping over China Japan and Indonesia. (We got out just as it was encroaching on Tokyo!)
-oh and eating copious amounts of raw fish. (usually not a winner with my bowel department)
So being slightly closer to a more destructive environmental disaster than say... the flooding of Bedford or something (which is probably the worst we've experienced back at home) has encouraged me to try and get things moving on the environmental activism side of things.
The debates in the Lions den have been awesome so far and it's great to see everyone getting involved. And that's the important thing, keeping everyone involved and encouraging others too. Once we get the numbers we can do some really exciting things.
First of all i would encourage everyone to watch an independent film called
The Age Of Stupid. It isn't available as DVD or anything yet but you can basically set up your own private screening of the film. This is a really exciting way of getting a film out there independently. Whilst the film is pretty slow moving it comes across as slightly more approachable than Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth" to a wider/all ages audience.
In the film you'll see examples of the totally outrageous groups set up to prevent wind farms from "destroying" our countryside. The irony here is cringe-able and the logic needs to be reversed; it is climate change that is the real threat to our countryside.
The Uk has a huge potential for renewable energy from wind (both on and offshore), tidal and geothermal and the pressure needs to be ramped up on the government and these dissenting minority groups as we approach the December climate meeting in Copenhagen.
Keep your eyes on the Lions Den for debate and action.
